Full Ride Scholarship

A full ride scholarship is not just a "free education". It is something that must be achieved and kept. It will not only be a large tool to assist to through the duration of your college education. You also achieve a well rounded education as a result of this. Many full ride scholarships require you take extra classes that help you go above and beyond your selected minor. That in turn gives you a more well rounded education.
I want to be a recipient of a full ride scholarship because i feel that it will give me an edge and an advantage over other graduates of my class. The extra classes, community service, and mentoring that generally accompanies a full ride scholarship will teach me life lessons that many other students may not learn until later in life. I aspire to be a teacher and teachers must have a very open, well rounded personality. I feel that the extra work that accompanies a full ride scholarship which will then in turn prepare me to be a better teacher.
Donors should invest in me by providing a full ride scholarship because i feel as if i can handle all that college has to offer, and I've begun to prove that by participating in UNO's Summer Scholars program. I have shown that i can handle it therefore it guarantees that i will be a success and not a "waste of funding." I could very well handle a full class load and any extra work that may accompany a full ride. I am successful at time-management as well as prioritizing all the tasks that i must complete.I would be an excellent canidate for a full ride scholarship.

The Person I Admire

When asked the question of who you admire most, many people would name drop. They'd say Obama for overcoming diversity, or Bill Gates or Warren Buffet for being successful. The person i admire may not have overcome the odds on such a big scale, or be a millionaire. The person i admire is my dad. My dad has been the one person i can always count on. He has been there for me when i need him, and is caring, helpful and energetic. My dad has passed those traits onto me. My dad is the person i admire most.

My dad has taught me so many life lessons. The most important one is to always be early, and to plan ahead because you never know what unexpected things may come up. He also has helped make me a well-rounded person by challenging my views on everything. He has taught me that there are more than just 2 sides to every story, more than just black and white. He also has taught me to do what i feel is right, regardless of the consequences, and backlash it may inflict upon me.

This will prepare me for my future because it has made me a well rounded person. Every problem and situation i may encounter, i will be able to look at rationally and make the right decision for me. I'll be able to do that as a result of him challenging my views on everything. I'll also be able to make the right decision for me because he taught me to do what i need to regardless of others. My dad has prepared me for life by always being there for me, and i know that he will continue to teach me lessons and help me succeed.

High School to College

High school to college is an enormous transition. In high school, it is very formatted, they tell you what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. In college, it is all up to. If you would rather go to the H-per center or hang out with friends then thats your choice. Another major difference is attendence. At UNO if you don't want to attend class, you don't have to. I'm really thankful for this opprtunity, bacause it prepares me to resist tempatation and learn time management before i have to learn it first hand.

The UNO campus is very much different than a standard high school. I love it though! Its so much more open and quiet and less crowded! The only thing i prefer about high school is the easy access to close parking! I'll never take advantage of Omaha Bryan's free parking or complain of the "long" walk again!

The class i'm taking, speech: communication in small groups is one of my favorite classes i've ever taken. It also may be the most difficult. The professor is amazing, she never makes the class boring and rarely just lectures, she keeps the entire class involved and i learn so much in this course. The assignment load is pretty large though. We have quizzes two or three times a week and have to read a chapter to prepare for each. So far i've kept up with the work load and have been doing well on the quizzes, and i hope it will continue! :)

Residential Life!

Living in Scott Residence Hall was a very new and unique expierience for me and unlike anything i have ever expierienced previously participated in. Living with complete strangers for a week requires not only trust, but it requires you to interact with types of people you may have not interacted with if you had not been forced to. In high school, you generally are expected to stay within your clique, but here, you were expected to step outside of your clique and meet everybody. That was one of the things i loved most about residential life, the people you.

Every situation has it's postives and negatives. The postives in this situation by far otuweighed the negatives. I was able to make new friends and bond with them through a variety of new and exciting activites. The most exciting thing i particiated in with Summer Scholars this last week was the high ropes course at Camp CJH. I was put into a harness and strapped onto a support and sent up a 40 foot cargo net. Once at the top i waited for my instructor and the 7 other students i was on a team with. We then used teamwork and trust to earn 2 prizes, the first being some badly needed water and the second a ride down the zip line. Overall, this expierience has been great, I loved the bonding, trust, friendships, and especially the wonderful Scott Hall cafeteria food! The only negatives were the short, cold showers we had to take!

The work load of college classes are much different than the typical high school class. This makes it difficult to balance a social life and friends, and work, all while getting the assignments or reading completed for teh next day. The first night of class i had to read 40 pages and take notes to prepare for a test the next day(which i got a 90% on!) Trying to work late then study was extemely difficult, especially when you had to get up at 6:30 the next morning. Although the work load was pretty large, i wasn't suprised, my teachers and classes up until this point have prepared me for this so i am confident i will succeed. I am very thankful i am able to have this oppurtunity to expierience college life first hand to be prepared for success next year. I love the class i'm in (speech:communication in small groups). Even though this will be a challenging course, i'm looking forward to learning all that this class has to offer.
